Tips to paint your house with good taste

Materials to use

When analyzing the surface to be painted, we can find that the wall has humidity, for example. For these cases, the use of specific products with or without fungicide (anti-mold) is recommended. With them, typical moisture stains (black tones) or mold stains are prevented from coming out again. If, on the other hand, we see that the wall to be painted is full of holes, we must use putty, generally known as aguaplast, and apply it directly to the surface with the help of a spatula or a trowel (the latter in those cases where there are considerable unevenness). When it dries, an hour or two later, the excess should be removed with very fine grit sandpaper. (Trick: it is better to apply the putty the night before).

In both cases, it is advisable to use a primer to ensure that the paint will adhere evenly throughout the wall.

Choose paint

  • If what we are looking for is to give it a special color, we can choose between: either a single-layer colored plastic paint (there are 8 different collections with more than 100 different shades) or a white plastic paint to later apply a tint. Another option is a white plastic paint to be mixed in tinting machines.

To paint, you will need a roller, an extension cord, a trim brush and a bucket with a mesh (the latter is not necessary if we finally decide to use a single-layer plastic paint, since it will already be incorporated into the container). In all other cases it is simply essential.

  • One the type of paint has been chosen, all that is left is Pour the contents into the tray and wet the trim brush, starting at the corners. It is important to start working in this area to go around the entire room with the brush.
  • Once this first phase is finished, the roller will be dipped in the bucket, in this case applying an ascending-descending movement on the grid to drain the excess paint that the roller can absorb. We will use this same trajectory when applying the wall, especially without putting too much pressure on the wall (this would only cause us to leave marks on the wall and the back and neck would suffer). It should simply be allowed to “roll” with a smooth trajectory. (Hint: if possible, it is always better to have an anti-drop roller).
  • It will then be allowed to dry according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, but not less than 3 hours if the weather is not humid. After this time we can give it a second hand, to obtain a perfect finish. While the second coat dries, one can entertain oneself by doing small touch-ups with a very fine brush. When everything has dried completely, the masking tape, plastics or protective cardboard will be carefully removed, because… we will have finished!
  • And one last piece of advice, if you want to keep the painter’s tools it is important to always clean them with water and put them to dry in a horizontal position.
